In honor of Black History Month and our continued fight for racial equality, Quay will be donating $15K to The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., our long-term partner doing vital work. We also reignited the Drip Series—which features some of our favorite Black creators—and participated in a variety of initiatives and activities that we’re highlighting below, in addition to resources so you can celebrate Black History Month all February and beyond.

We believe that COMMUNITY IS QUAY and all people—regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, or creed—deserve respect, opportunity, and love. This idea is central to everything we do at Quay because we are nothing without the unique, diverse group of individuals internally + externally who are part of our global community.
ABOUT THE NAACP LDF
The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. LDF also defends the gains and protections won over the past 80 years of civil rights struggle and works to improve the quality and diversity of judicial and executive appointments. Beyond that, LDF seeks to increase fairness and African American participation in all aspects of economic life. In the months ahead, the LDF’s work will focus on political participation, expanding to the ballot for African American voters by challenging voter suppression, monitoring the redistricting process and contesting discriminatory maps, and empowering Black people to engage in democratic processes, such as the pivotal 2022 elections.

It goes by many names—Black excellence, Black joy, the sauce, etc.—whatever you call it, we’re celebrating Black creators and their drip all month long and beyond. Meet a couple of our favorites and what drip means to them.

“Drip is a freedom of expression that extends beyond a simple catch phrase. It has evolved into a lifestyle, a way individuals view their intrinsic value, an elaborative outlet to express oneself to the world and an opportunity to showcase one's confidence without speaking. Extrinsically, my drip is urban, bold, authentic, chic, and fashion forward with no bounds to society's perspective on what "fashion" or "style" should be. I've always prided myself with the phrase, "it's not what you wear, but how you wear it." Feeling comfortable taking risks through accessorizing, mixing prints/patterns, and embracing monochrome/neutrals has curated most of my street style inspired looks. Intrinsically, my drip is confident, empathetic, loving, progressive and limitless! My gift is to inspire creativity and confidence through fashion and to encourage us as a black community that it is special to be unique and we should continuously embrace that unapologetically.”

Kiara decided to combine her love for illustrating with her passion for teaching to design fun social emotional books for children to help with their emotional development and confidence. <- because Confidence is Quay!

I Am Not Sleepy It features an adorable set of diverse characters. The simple, straightforward dialogue incorporates respectful parenting techniques and empathetic messaging, offering peaceful ideas to make bedtime easier. Written and illustrated by Markita Staples-Green. Relatable to both children and their parents.
In addition to resources and education, our squad got together for a virtual reading: “Quay Littles Story Time” for parents + their kiddos to highlight 2 Black independent authors: Kira Wilson and Markita Staples-Green. If you have littles at home, we encourage you to introduce your kids at home to race + diversity.
